Ekiben Kitchen

Located in Glyfada, along Athen's southern coastline, Ekiben Kitchen is conceived as a tightly controlled hospitality environment shaped by movement, precision, and cultural layering. Rooted in the ritual of Japanese railway dining, the architecture translates the concept of transit into built form. Circulation is continuous, transitions are immediate, and every surface is calibrated to support a deliberate sequence of compression and release.

From the outset, light is conceived as an embedded architectural layer rather than an applied element. Developed in collaboration with 18Fifty, the scheme is executed entirely through LEDFlex's Flexi range, establishing a singular optical language across the space.

The façade establishes a controlled threshold. A continuous glass block envelope forms a luminous boundary, diffusing light into a soft, uniform glow while filtering views into the space beyond. A narrow incision marks the entry, compressing the transition from exterior calm into a more concentrated interior atmosphere.

Inside, the space is organised around a central axis of activity anchored by the Birdman DJ booth, operating as both focal point and cultural layer within the composition. Dynamic Flex RGBWWW is integrated here, our colour changing and pixel LED linear light engine, introducing a dynamic yet controlled chromatic layer. Shifts in colour are precisely calibrated to respond to the energy of the space without overwhelming the visual field.

Behind, a shelving system of vinyl records and audio equipment is articulated through Nano Flex 240, seamlessly integrated within the joinery. Its minimal 4 mm profile enables precise concealment within tight detailing, delivering a continuous, low-glare backlit surface that reveals objects through contrast and depth rather than direct illumination.

The bar forms the spatial and social fulcrum. Dynamic Flex RGBWW is fully integrated within the bar architecture, concealed within the under-bar skirting detail to deliver a calibrated colour spectrum suited to hospitality environments.

Towards the service interface, the lighting strategy becomes more task-oriented while maintaining visual continuity. Lumen Line 240 introduces a high-CRI layer across both preparation and takeaway counters, ensuring accurate colour rendering and clarity in food presentation without disrupting the overall spatial language.

Secondary elements follow the same disciplined approach across circulation and WC areas. Nano Flex 250 is integrated into handrails, stair edges, and upper perimeters, delivering low-glare, continuous guidance.

Ekiben Kitchen is defined by a singular lighting language, delivered entirely through LEDFlex's Flexi range, allowing multiple spatial conditions to be resolved without visual interruption. Each system operates with precision, yet reads as part of a continuous whole.

Light is fully embedded within the architecture, guiding movement, shaping perception, and reinforcing depth. What remains is not the presence of lighting, but its effect, a space held together through control, clarity, and quiet precision.
